Program Evaluation Committee: Anesthesiology Residency

Anesthesiololgy Program Evaluation Committee (PEC):

 

Composition:

  • The PEC must be composed of at least 4 anesthesiology program faculty members and at least 2 residents.
  • The PEC will be structured as a subcommittee of the Anesthesiology Education Committee.

Responsibilities: As stated in the ACGME Common Program Requirements, the PEC should actively participate in:

  • Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational activities of the program.
  • Reviewing and making recommendations for revision of competency-based curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Addressing areas of non-compliance with ACGME standards.
  • Reviewing the program annually using evaluations of faculty, residents, and others, as specified below.
  • The program, through the PEC, must document formal, systematic evaluation of the curriculum at least annually, and is responsible for rendering a written and Annual Program Evaluation (APE).

The program must monitor and track each of the following areas:

  • resident performance
  • faculty development
  • graduate performance, including performance of program graduates on the certification examination
  • program quality
    • Residents and faculty must have the opportunity to evaluate the program confidentially and in writing at least annually,
    • The program must use the results of residents’ and faculty members’ assessments of the program together with other program evaluation results to improve the program.
    • Monitor progress on the previous year’s action plan(s).

PEC must prepare Annual Program Evaluation (APE) and written plan of action that includes:

  • Documentation of initiatives to improve performance in one or more of the areas of resident performance, faculty development, graduate performance or program quality.
  • Delineates how these initiatives will be measured and monitored.

Review and approval of APE and Action Plan:

  • The action plan should be reviewed and approved by the teaching faculty (Education Committee).
  • The action plan should be documented in PEC and Education Committee meeting minutes.
  • The APE and action plan should be submitted annually via New Innovations for review by UTMB Graduate Medical Education Committee.
