Case Log Policy
Department of Anesthesiology
University of Texas Medical Branch
Residents are expected to log cases into the ACGME Data Collection System
daily.  Case logs
should be complete and include ALL required descriptors.
To complete these duties, residents are
given a computer and training for the AGGME Data Collection System at the
beginning of residency.
Case
logs will be spot checked throughout the month and reviewed at the end of each
month. Residents who are not up-to-date on spot check will be notified by email.
At the end of the month, any residents with logs either not up-to-date or
insufficient in number will be given an unsatisfactory for the month.
Residents who are unsatisfactory will be notified at the end of the
month.
Any
resident who has insufficient patient care experience as documented in the ACGME
Data Collection System may be required to repeat that month of training.
The clinical competency committee (CCC) will review resident’s compliance
with this policy every six months.
Residents with repeated noncompliance will be evaluated by the CCC and may be
reported to the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) as unprofessional for the
six month grading period. Note: Residents who receive an unsatisfactory in
professionalism for two 6-month grading periods are required by the ABA to
repeat 6-months of training.  In this
case, the resident contract may not be renewed.
