In my laboratory, we investigate the molecular mechanisms of neuronal survival and neuronal cell death af-ter traumatic brain injury. Using a well established rat model of TBI, we study the patterns of injury-induced gene expression in the hippocampus, an essential component of learning and memory systems, which is selectively vulnerable to TBI. Currently, we are studying the effect of knocking down selected TBI-induced gene expression using in vivo RNA interference techniques.
