The Department provides all Anesthesiology residents with:
Educational Fund: $3,000 ($750 / year) will be allocated to each resident’s Resident Education Account (REA). REA funds are generally used for medical books, subscriptions, PDA, and travel to approved professional meetings.
ABA Staged Board Examinations: fees reimbursed: $775 for BASIC Exam taken just after PGY-2 (if passed) and $775 for ADVANCED Exam.
USMLE: The department will reimburse for USMLE Step 3 if taken and passed before the end of PGY-1. Residents entering as CA-1 (PGY-2) are expected to complete USMLE 3 prior to joining as CA-1.
Medical License Renewal or Temporary Institutional Permit Fees: All residents must have either a Texas medical license or an institutional permit. We partially reimburse renewal fees once (up to $750) for the Texas license or pay annual Physician in Training (PIT) fees.
Professional Membership Dues: We pay membership dues to the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthesia Research Society, and the Texas Medical Association. With these memberships, residents receive two monthly journals, Anesthesiology and Anesthesia and Analgesia.
