Clinical Preceptorship

Medical StudentsThe Anesthesiology Department offers a 4-week clinical preceptorship during the summer between 1st and 2nd year of medical school. Students work one-on-one with an assigned resident in the general OR learning airway management skills, intubation and IV placement techniques and delivering anesthetics under supervision.

Students are also assigned for one day to the day surgery clinic, surgical intensive care unit, pain clinic, and labor and delivery. New students are thus exposed to the broad field of Anesthesiology. The students are evaluated by their assigned instructor on a weekly/daily basis. Students do not take call nor work weekends.

For more information or an application you can call the anesthesiology student coordinator, Cherie Barker at 409-747-5671 or email cbarker@utmb.edu.
