Research Program

Department of Anesthesiology – 2006
Michael P. Kinsky, M.D., Associate Professor and Clinical Director, Resuscitation Research Laboratory

Studies in healthy volunteers will be performed in an effort to provide mechanistic and clinically relevant insight into the cause of rapid fluid redistribution as well as to demonstrate how beta-adrenergic agents can influence the amount and duration of vascular volume expansion after a fluid bolus. This work will provide a better understanding of the microcirculatory control points of fluid distribution and their modulation through the beta-adrenergic receptor so that more efficient fluid resuscitation strategies may someday be designed to decrease morbidity and mortality in a wide range of patients requiring fluid therapy.
